Tui Na: What to Expect

When you come to BCA for a Tui Na appointment, please arrive a few minutes early to get comfortable. It is recommended to wear loose, comfortable clothing for the practitioner to be able to move your arms and legs for some Tui Na techniques.

After Tui Na it is best to have a relaxed day and drink lots of water to let your body absorb the treatment. Tui Na and massage can be used medically similar to acupuncture. Talk to your massage practitioner to see if a treatment plan of once a week or regular treatments would help improve systemic and musculoskeletal issues.

Tui Na FAQ

What exactly is Tui Na? How is it different from swedish massage?

Tui Na is a massage technique based on Traditional Chinese Medical theory working with meridians and the five elements. Tui Na will use acu points and channels. You stay fully clothed in a Tui Na massage and there is more range of motion work to open up certain channels.

What is Tui Na good for?

Tui Na is good for moving blockages that can manifest as: pain, emotional blockages, mental blockages or a vague sense of imbalance.

Tui Na can address some systemic issues that we also treat with acupuncture and herbs. It is also great for musculoskeletal problems and acute injuries.

Is it deep tissue?

Tui Na can be deep or light depending on the style of the practitioner and the person being treated. But it does not use oil in the same way as Swedish massage.

What can I expect?

At the least, you can expect more relaxation and awareness. You may also notice decreased pain levels, more mobility and ease and a greater sense of well-being.
