Facial Rejuvenation: What to Expect

BCA’s facial rejuvenation is a relaxing treatment that can be enjoyed as a special treat or to address medical skin issues. Facial acupuncture is great for treating acne as well as wrinkles. Please talk to the practitioner about an ongoing treatment plan.

Please come a few minutes early for your facial rejuvenation treatment. If it’s your first appointment it’s important to come a few minutes early to fill out a couple of forms. Wear comfortable clothes. The practitioner will mostly use needles in your face, but will also need access to your limbs for some balancing points.

After treatment you will enjoy a relaxed glow. It is important to drink lots of water and stay out of direct sun for the day.

Are needles part of the procedure?

Yes, facial rejuvenation incorporates acupuncture as part of the therapy. Acupuncture needles are placed at strategic points on the arms and legs as well as on the face and scalp.

Is it painful?

Acupuncture is typically not painful. You may feel a slight pinching or prinking sensation upon insertion, but after the needles are in, patients usually don't feel anything. More than anything, acupuncture is very relaxing. Furthermore, our facial rejuvenation acupuncturist has received additional training in gentle needling and uses the finest and smoothest needles designed for painless and smooth insertion.

I'm afraid of needles, can I get facial rejuvenation without the needles?

We recommend facial rejuvenation with acupuncture but if you have a fear of needles, you can still receive the benefits of our facials without the needling part. The session would then be more focused on Chinese herbal wrap for the face, massage with our specially formulated herbal moisturizer, a cooling rub with our jade roller and a prescription for internal Chinese herbs.

Can facial rejuvenation make my wrinkles go away?

Facial rejuvenation can drastically reduce the appearance of fine lines and smooth the skin. For very deep-seated wrinkles, we recommend our in depth facials where we focus on targeted areas and do more needling around the wrinkles. You will not get surgical results but you can expect good results.

Can facial rejuvenation help with my acne?

Yes, facial rejuvenation can help eliminate your acne through both external and internal treatments. Depending upon how severe your acne is, we may recommend the in depth treatment to address the deeper roots of the imbalance. Acne is usually considered excess heat in the body and acupuncture as well as Chinese herbs can help restore balance.

How does facial rejuvenation work?

Facial Rejuvenation is a holistic procedure based upon Chinese Medical theory used to improve the skin texture and tone of the face and neck thereby enhancing beauty. This is achieved through the use of Chinese herbs and acupuncture targeting both internal and external causes of premature aging and skin imbalance.

How many sessions does it take to see a difference?

All acupuncture is cumulative, which means that the more consistent you receive treatments the more results will show. You will notice a change after the first session: brighter skin, more tone. If you have good skin but just want maintenance and a nice glow, the beneficial effects of our treatments will be evident after the first treatment. It takes up to seven sessions to have a more dramatic change and a lasting effect. A series is completed after 10-15 treatments where you will see more drastic results. If you have longer standing problems, ie. acne or deep wrinkles, it may take several sessions before you see marked improvements in those areas. However, with just one treatment, most people observe better skin tone, color and brightness.

How often do I have to come?

How often you should come depends upon what your goals are. If you have good skin with minor problems, weekly or every two weeks will keep your skin in good condition. If you'd like to work on longer standing problems, we would recommend multiple visits per week.

What can I expect?

You can expect to relax completely, be pampered, and leave with glowing skin.

I've heard about facial rejuvenation before but it's typically very expensive. How is it made affordable at BCA?

I have sensitive skin, will facial rejuvenation be irritating to me?

Acupuncture is very gentle and will not irritate sensitive skin. All of the products we use are 100% natural and will not cause irritation or redness. In fact, the products will aid any existing irritations or redness on the skin.

What is the difference between the facial rejuvenation package versus the in-depth facial rejuvenation package?

The regular treatment is a great general treatment that will help brighten skin tone and clear any blemishes. The in-depth treatment will much more targeted to blemish areas. The practitioner can use tiny needles to target blemishes, dry spots, and wrinkles in order to provide more specific treatment.

What is the difference between a spa facial and facial rejuvenation?

Spa facials treat the skin superficially. Acupuncture facial rejuvenation uses needles to help the body cleanse from the inside out. There are also points placed in the body to help whatever systemic issue could be affecting the skin’s condition.
